Types of Child Care
What are the types of child care that someone can provide?
|
Exempt Child Care – This is care that is exempt from any licensing. You may provide exempt care if the children are related to you by blood, marriage, court decree, the children are from just one family, or the care is provided as a cooperative arrangement between parents and no payment is exchanged. If you chose to care for more than one family’s children, you must become licensed as a Family Child Care Provider. If you are offering exempt care for a family in Solano County, you can have a background check performed through the State Department of Justice. This is called the TrustLine process. If you are receiving payment from a child care subsidy program for providing care, you may be required to complete the Trustline process in order to be paid. If you would like more information on the TrustLine program, please go to www.trustline.org |
Licensed Family Child Care – Care that occurs in the home you live in and is licensed for a capacity of up to 8 children (Small Family Child Care) or up to14 children (Large Family Child Care). All adults living in the home are required to complete a background check and the home must meet state licensing Health & Safety Codes. For more information on the Title 22 Family Child Care Regulations, please see the Community Care Licensing division website at www.ccld.ca.gov or review our Steps to becoming Licensed. If you are thinking about becoming a Licensed Family Child Care Provider, Solano Family & Children’s Services hosts the Licensing Orientation to begin this process. Please see our Steps To Becoming Licensed. If you would like to find out about our next orientation dates and how SFCS can help you prepare to open your small business. |
Licensed Child Care Centers – Care that occurs in many different types of settings that are primarily used for child care. Child Care Center regulations require Directors and Teachers to have specific educational units and permits as well as completing the background check with Department of Justice. Center locations are required to meet specific Health & Safety codes in order to become and maintain their license. To read more about the requirements, please see the Title 22 Child Care Center Regulations at www.ccld.ca.gov If you are an Early Childhood Development professional interested in opening up a child care center, you will need to attend a licensing orientation located at the Department of Social Services - Community Care Licensing in Rohnert Park. Their phone number is (707) 588-5026. If you are interested in looking at the supply and demand information for Solano County Child Care, please see our Solano Child Care Portfolio. |
