Child Care
Food Program
|
The Child Care Food
Program is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)
for the purpose of providing nutritious meals and promoting healthy
eating habits for children in a child care environment. Licensed Child
Care Homes and TrustLined Providers (under certain circumstances) may
participate. Children receive nutritious, well-balanced meals and develop healthy eating habits. Child care providers receive a cash reimbursement for serving meals that meet the nutritional requirements set by the USDA. The meals and snacks served must meet USDA requirements. This simply means that food must be served from the four food groups: milk, meat, bread and fruits/vegetables. The amount of food served depends on the age of the child. This program provides nutrition information, recipes, workshops and training materials. Staff provide assistance and training to parents and providers. An orientation is available to interested providers where they will learn of the details and specific requirements of this program. |

SFCS administers
several child care programs, including CalWORKs and WIB child care
programs. They are designed to provide full or partial child care
payments on behalf of eligible families. The goal of these programs is
to promote the health, growth, education and care of children while
their parents continue their employment, job search, education or
training. Some programs also serve children at risk of abuse or neglect.
Child care is by parental choice in a Licensed Family Child Care Home, Child Care Center, License-Exempt/TrustLined Provider or In-Home Care Provider. Child care payments are made directly to the child care provider. Parents may have to pay family fees or co-payments based on multiple variables. Eligibility is based on need and income. Some programs operate from a waiting list. For more information about these programs, please contact our office. |
